the objective: reducing environmental impact

PLANET4sustainability® defines an environmental data collection framework and a process for responsible resource use aimed at reducing environmental impacts. The method starts with an initial analysis of company data to identify priorities and define actionable efficiency measures. Implementation of projects to reduce water and energy consumption and  CO2 emissions takes place in collaboration with selected technological and financial partners, based on company-specific characteristics, production processes and ambition levels.

alignment pathway: Carbon Target Setting

The alignment of 4s PLANET with the Carbon Target Setting (CTS) methodology of the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii) has enabled harmonisation of approaches, allowing supply chain companies adopting 4s PLANET to directly report CTS data to brands. This alignment further supports brands in reducing CO2 emissions and resource consumption throughout the entire supply chain.

annual release: a dedicated report

Following annual data verification, each company receives a dedicated Report highlighting key consumption and impact KPIs such as water footprint and carbon footprint. The Report serves as an annual analysis tool for defining subsequent improvement actions and can also be used for communication purposes, as it ensures the authenticity of the undertaken pathway.
Key KPIs include:

• organisational CO2eq impact and reduction actions;
• organisational H2O impact and reduction actions;
• organisational energy impact (MJ) and reduction actions;
• % of impact generated by internal processes;
• % of involvement and measurement of outsourced processes;
• % reduction of impact over time.

toward environmental impact reduction in fashion

Reducing the environmental impact of fashion is a highly topical issue. While the sector’s high impact is well known, in recent years an increasing number of companies have launched concrete initiatives to reduce the impact of both products and upstream production processes. These actions include the growing use of organic and recycled materials, waste reduction, elimination of hazardous chemicals, optimisation of water and energy consumption, and reduction of atmospheric emissions. The most effective actions are data-driven: measuring impacts in order to define and implement a continuous improvement pathway.
